Halloween and More

It's been a while so let's get caught up on what's been going on in our wonderful SK classroom. The child are becoming comfortable writing about their weekend so that is how we began Halloween week, and you will have an opportunity to read those entries during your upcoming conferences this week The class continues to impress me with their pattern block designs and the most recent depicted various Halloween characters. The children are often requested to sort coins in various ways to learn the names and values of each of them, and this week they used "heads" or "tails" as clue for their review. As was mentioned earlier this year, the children confuse a nickel and a quarter so they are reminded that a nickel is smooth around the edge while a quarter has ridges around it. The children loved painting Jack-lantern faces on the fall pumpkins and seeing them stuffed and hanging above their lockers the next morning. Please turn them as pumpkins so they may decorate your home for upcoming Thanksgiving festivities. The class also concluded their pumpkin study by concluded our pumpkin study by completing their version of Jeanne Titheringon's book Pumpkin, Pumpkin. Congratulations to everyone on a study well done. Hopefully you have heard on the songs and poems that accompanied the book as your child read it to you! Add the book, Our Pumpkin and select a special place for these treasure may reside so your child may share them often with family and guests. Our Halloween celebrations were outstanding. The parade was fun, the carnival awesome, and the class party delicious and delightful. We appreciated having Lauryn's aunt spend the morning with us. Many thanks to everyone who spent so many weeks and hours making our day so extraordinary. Hip, Hip, Hooray U R Terrific! This week began with a lengthy discussion about our SK Halloween celebrations followed by a written entry added into their scrap books. Currently during printing lessons the children are reviewing their first names and two upper and lower case letters on lined paper, and six letters were completed this week. The children had great fun acting out the characters portrayed in this week's Predecodable book, Tap, Tap, Tap, if not, please encourage them to do so. The class is becoming familiar with -at family words since we reviewed them during Morning Message this week. Have you heard? We now have two pets residing in room P217. Their names are Spotty and Icy and they are dwarf African frog. Please stop by and see them soon. Please note the picture album additions ! I am looking forward to our upcoming conference. See you then, if not before!
