A Special Week for Our SK!

The first picture in the Album this week captures the essence of how the children get right to work when given a writing assignment. This one focused on their outing to Green Meadows Farm so you can imagine how special it was to the children. You'll soon have an opportunity to read this and many more adventures when you receive your SK Scrapbook at the end of the year! Little Chick left this week so in celebrate of our study the children made chick hats. The class also wrote a second observation on how Little Chilk had changed since the first week. The chit-chats, discussions, and writing that took place during that span of time was priceless! I am such a lucky lady to be a teacher of young children! The class has completed both the "et" and "ed" word family books this week. They enjoyed finding word with the given ending and usually draw and illustrate them well. Lucy Bartlett, one of this year's graduating seniors, and a former SK student of mine, came by unexpectedly to share some of her SK memories and projects with the class. Unfortunately we were on our way to lunch so the visit was short but sweet as Lucy shared her All About Me poster with the class. As an Sker Lucy wanted to be a dentist. As a adult her wants to be a pediatric nurse. Not too far off! What a treat for all of us! Later, Sophie shared a very special story with us. Sophie's mom toured Germany with her grandmother and went to Berlin where she bought a treasure box with a small piece of the Berlin Wall in it. Sophie brought an Atlas and a World map to help tell the story of how the wall was build in 1961 to separate East and West Germany and that in 1990 is was torn down to make Germany one country again. Sophie told the story with great passion and as much understanding as any young child could state it! We learn so many wonderful things in so many way at USM, especially in SK! Bravo Sophie! Thursday, Mrs. Muggli, the farmer, introduced Little Chick to the brood of chick's from Mrs. McMinn's. We waited quietly and anxiously to see if the chicks would bond with one another. No if and or buts about it, Little Chick was anxious. However, by the time all of the chicks were put into the box, including Stuffed Chick everything looked and sounded alright. Due to the weather, Mrs. Muggli assured us that the chicks would stay in her home until the weather was warmer. Then the chicks would venture into the barn together to meet the other twenty-eight residents of the barn. We also celebrated Mackenzie's Birthday and Fiona's Special Person Day. Both were exciting events, and of course the class made cards for Mackenzie and a book for Fiona. The children also spent a little time with me doing assessments for upcoming reports. Always something going on in our SK! Wishing you a safe and relaxing weekend! Decodable books 17 It is Fun and 18 A Bug Can Tug would be great reading material for family and friends! See you Tuesday!
