Snowy Week, and Learning Fun!

We began our week at the ice rink where the children continue to learn new skills while improving their old ones. Each child is proud of their progress, as am I! Many of you enjoyed our second Family Skate on Friday. Thanks for being apart of this special event. Our late Family Skate will be Friday, February 25th, so come skate or watch from the bleachers as your child join other SK children on the ice. After reading a groundhog story the class was introduced to the poem, Fuzzy, Wussy, Groundhog. Since we had a snow day on Groundhogs Day so I didn't think the class would be excited about making groundhog puppets. Was I wrong! So many children were excited to tell me that they thought that the groundhog had or had not see his shadow. When a group of student from Bruce Guadalupe School came for a visit, we invited Jasmin to join us for the afternoon as an assistant teacher. She helped the children make their puppets. As always, please place this treasure in your child's SK Book Box so it may be shared with family and friends. I am putting the poem on the Portal Monday and will send home a hard copy in this week's Friday Folder. We revisited our trip to Noodles and Company and the children wrote an entry for their scrapbooks. Thanks for sending your child's 100 Day Collection to school. We will be exploring the items in a variety of ways this week. And due to the snow day, 1ooth Day will occur on Monday! The class has been using calculators throughout the week to count by twos, fives, and tens. We played Around the World to practice recognition of number 0-100 and made analog clocks. We are learning that an hour has sixty minutes and that counting by fives gives us a better understanding of what an hour means. At this time we are telling time by the hour. Feel free to discuss and practice this skills with your child. The class continues to practice the recognition and value of coins. In fact our Riddle of the Week is asks a question about coins. See if you know the answer. We will be previewing books at the Book Fair Monday, at 1:00. The children will write down the names and prices of several books that interest them so you may discuss the books and make your selections. Please join us at 2:00 on Tuesday. when the children will return to the Book Fair and purchase books. Of course you may come and purchase books throughout the week if you do not wish that your child purchase book at that particular time. Please take the opportunity to participate in Put a Face on First Grade anytime on Tuesday, from 12:30-2:00. Mark your calendar and sign up for Conferences Wednesday March 2nd PM, or Thursday, March 3rd. There will be no school Friday, March 4th. This weeks Picture Album will be added to the blog Monday after school.Hip, Hip, Hooray for our SK Parents U R Terrific! Go Packers!
