100 Day Acivities and Surprises Too!

100th Day and the activities that followed made this entire week a very special and exciting one in SK! After a terrific French class, we read the final entry in Emily's First 100 Days of School. We counted our straw collection which began on our first day of school, Wednesday, September 25 and the one last entry on 100th hundredth day Monday, February 7th. We counted to 100 by fives and tens, played Around the World with o-100 number cards, learned a song about 100th day, and began making 100th day hats using 100 colorful pom-poms. For snack the class enjoyed a 100th Day cookie and concluded the day by reading our concept of print book, The 100th Day of School. The class began Tuesday by going on a Scavenger Hunt looking for numbers 0-100. The class found all of the numbers with the exception of 1 and 47. Someday those numbers will show up! The children then took their individual collections and grouped them by ten and then fives. It was amazing to see their understanding that one group of ten makes to groups of five; thus 5+ 5 = 10! The class wanted to write about the Super Bowl so the class composed a short story that I wrote up on the board and they copied it. The children were successful and I was pleased with the outcome. The class loves their lesson time on the ice. They are so eager and excited to learn from their teachers. Bravo! After returning from the ice rink on Wednesday the class enjoyed a snack of choclate milk and Annie's Bunnies. Next the children weighed and measures their collections. When the children concluded those activitites they painted their valentine bags, wrote their names in bubble letters and colored them. Thursday, each child then wrote a special Valentine for his/her family. Each was different and each was unique. The snip, snip, sniping of scissors could be heard as the children began cutting paper to create their valentine gifts. Though process was quite lengthy it gave us plenty of time to chit-chat and enjoy a little silly time together. Before lunch the children had an opportuniy to complete and decorate their valentine cards. At last the temperatures made it possible for the children to go outside Friday afternoon amid a light snowflurries which made for a delightful recess. A huge thank you goes to Our Butterfly Lady, Mrs. Laing, who came and helped many of the children complete their Valentine gifts. We enjoyed a great time with Abiagil's mom, dad, grandmother, grandfather, and sitter during her Special Person Day. We learned that Abigail would someday like to be the President of the United States, and we all agree that she would make a great President! Let's dress up for Valentine's Day! Surprises are on their way! See you soon! PS Please go to the Portal and sign up for March 2 and 3 Conferences. No school on Friday, March 4.
