Special People and Places

Hi! We continue to review counting skills in meaningful ways. In groups of two, the children used number lines to play, Guess the Number? A classmate wrote down a number on a Post-it and by giving clues like: it is an odd number, it has 2 groups of ten, move it more or less than the number, etc. Thus, the children were challenging one another to guess the number. You'll receive a number line soon! We have shapes in the estimating jar, so please add your estimate to the jar when you come into the classroom. By the way, there were 29 jingle bells in the last estimating game. I wonder how close you came to the number? As you know we have been looking into the lives of Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks. Monday, the first grade classes gave a informative and creative presentation about these two special historical figures. Our class was thrilled that they knew so much about their lives. In fact, four girls in the class asked if they could develop a play about Rosa Parks. They did and it was terrific! You can see pictures of their play in this week's Picture Album. The children are beginning to write their own books. Please encourage your child to make lists, draw pictures and label them with words, make the grocery list, and write to relatives. Every endeavor to learn should be shared and cherished with others. The class enjoyed their skating lesson this week, but they REALLY shared their skills during Family Skate. The children have been reading and illustrating the winter story, The Disappearing Snowman. This story is a great way to review the days of the week, follow the plot, sequence and tell the story, and illustrate the story with added detail. As soon as the cover is illustrated the books will be ready for your enjoyment. Our economic study in coming along. Next week each SK class will visit one another to enjoy a bread store, a book store, a bowling alley, and a pasta bowl. We are a little behind, but still received payment for beginning to develop the concept of our business. It will taking shape early next week and will be open for business on Friday. The preprimary children gathered in the library to enjoy the fifteenth annual JK Snow Ball. Children who were here in JK went down memory lane and we all enjoyed the magical event. Please remember to share the Blog and Picture Albums with your child. They can really give you so much insight and details about our week! It was great having the Endres family participate in Emery Special Person Day! We concluded the presentation by cheering, Go Packers! Wishing you all a warm and winning weekend! Hip, Hip, Hooray for our SK class who love to learn and have fun.
