A Week with our Mom's in Mind

The children walked into the classroom eager to tell me about the events that had occurred over the weekend. I asked that they take paper in hand and write about it. The room was extremely quiet as the children wrote. After conferencing with each child, there is no doubt that these children are capable and confident writers. Your child will receive a Summer Journal at the end of SK. When you hear excitement in their voices about a big or little event that has taken place, stop, and ask them to write about it and show it to you. Don't write for or with them. Let them write first and they will be eager to share it with you. But we just don't have the time. Parents, you child has worked diligently to develop writing skills. Confidence and skills can be lost if not nurtured and praised. Yes, the same is true of reading skills. Provide the books, find the time, and read with you child and ask your child to read with you. Remember the library is a valuable resource anytime, but especially during the summer. The children enjoy writing and spelling their SK sight words. We are also playing Sight word Bingo as well. Continue to review the name and value of coins. We are adding coins which would be helpful for you to do as well and long as you add small values. One hint is asking your child to put largest coin values first, and please not too many quarters and NO fifty cent or dollar amounts. Our third grade buddies invited us to view their dioramas and learn information about various National Parks they have been studying. It was a terrific opportunity for the children to learn more about our country. The children loves the Mother's SK Art Show. They worked diligently on their gifts, songs, and poem. They were so proud to share this special evening with you. They appreciated the art that other classes presented too. Mr. Geniusz was and is amazing. It's great that the children have had the opportunity to work with him before they enter first grade. It great to see the interconnections with other grade levels and adults that we have made throughout the year. Have a wonderful Mother's Day with you friend and families. See you Monday. Hip, Hip, Hooray for special days!

  1. Dear Mrs. Camp and the SK class,
Writing is so much fun. Sometimes I wonder how a whole adventure can be inside of a small book. That is how powerful and amazing words are and I am so excited for all of you that you are learning to write so well.

Thank you for the amazing SK Mother's Day Art Show. What a treat it was to see your beautiful, colorful work. There is nothing better for a mom than a gift their child made with their own hands and imaginations. I have all my things in a special place where I can see them every day.

I am excited to watch your little chicks, but so far the password is not working for me! I will keep trying though!

Big hug to all of you! Mrs. Jochmann

  2. Thank you SK class, and thank you Max. Max & I had a great time for Mothers Day. Just the 2 of us. And the wonderful gifts that I received for my special person day - soon we will have to move since all the walls in our house are covered with the most precious art there is.

I am looking forward to the trip on Thursday - I get to spend a full day with all the SK friends and Mrs. Camp.

    Have a great week.

    Mrs. Simanonok (a.k.a. Max's mom)
