May 10-14 Chick Hatch, Excitement Abounds

The children were so pleased that you enjoyed their Mother's Day gifts. I can assure you that they were made with great "TLC." The accounts the children wrote about the Mother's Day Art Show were outstanding. Thanks for coming. The Very Colorful Caterpillar collage was won by the Bay Family. Many thanks for your generous contributions to this special event. We sent a check to Hope for Haiti in the amount of $1,162 to help rebuild Grand-Sable Kindergarten and Elementary School. The children quickly discovered five chicks eggs with pecks in them as the came into the classroom Monday morning. We called technology and Nikki Lucyk got the web cam up and running. By the 3:00pm five little chicks had hatched and were staying cozy warm in the incubator. By Tuesday, 3:00 pm seven more chicks had joined the group. Wednesday, morning eleven of the chicks went into the coop and have been much more available for the children to watch and enjoy. Our lonely little chick was not strong enough and is no longer with us. The web cam was a new and short lived experience, I hope you had an opportunity to see it in action. We celebrated the arrival of our chicks by making "chick hats" and playing chick math addition and subtraction using kernals of corn. Please "peep" in to see the chicks soon. They grow and change quickly. The children are becoming comfortable adding coins. If you have change in your pocket let you child count it now and again. Our visits the the computer lab have truly prepared the children to embrace computer classes in first grade. During our recent visit, the children had a great opportunity to explore a drawing program. In French, the children wrote a variation of Good Night Moon. Mr. Salerno told and showed the children how sign language can help children who aredeaf or hearing inpared. He then invited the class how to sign Good Night Moon. The children are reading word family books in pairs and then reading them aloud to the class. Several groups have already shared their books. The other groups will share their books next week. Our trip to Green Meadows Farm will take place Thursday, the 20th. An email which includes important information about this trip will be sent with this blog link. We are working on a clever money trick with a dollar bill so keep one handy next week! See you soon! Picture alubm tomorrow

  1. Dear Mrs. Camp and the SK class,
I was so excited to hear about your chicks being born! I could not believe how many hatched. How lucky-ducky...I mean lucky-chicky you are!!

Lilian read the Bonsoir SK book to me and to a little girl we know who is from France and living in Milwaukee. I love it! What a great idea.

See you all very soon! Hugs, Mrs. Jochmann
