Week 20 New and Review with Reminders Too!

At our Assembly on the 18th the second grades presented a program that focused on Martin Luther King's, dream to create justice and equality for all people. Focal points of the program included Rosa Parks, and the peaceful Freedom Marches that took place during the Civil Rights movement. We took that opportunity to review a chant and a song that we have been singing about Dr. King. We will continue further discussions on how this historical figure has made our world a better place. Math took center stage as the children revisited skip counting by 2s, 5, and 10s, made a variety of complex patterns with manipulatives, and looked at place values in a new way. That reminds me, when you send in 100 items for 100th Day, please make certain that all of the 100 items are the same. For example 100 paper clips, 100 pom-poms, one hundred Q-tips, 100 buttons, etc. The remainer of our short week was spend creating Antarctic Slush, the business the children created during our economic study. Many thanks to Rosemary and Reily's moms for helping plan and carry out this "cool" business. Arranging the room, designing the decor, and selecting job responsibilities all took a great deal of thought, creativity, and cooperative decision making from everyone. Hip, Hip, Hooray! by Thursday afternoon most of the plans were reality and the enthusiasm for our grand opening Monday afternoon is exciting. Oops, remember skating lessons Monday, the 25th, LS Show & Share Night Thursday the 25th at 5:30, and Family Skate Friday, the 26th at 1:30. This is also a great opportunity to remind you to mark your calendar for Put a Face on First Grade 8:30-10:30 Wednesday, February 3rd. Enjoy a great weekend! Patti
