New Adventures in SK!

The children began the week by creating snowball mobiles. The activity took time, effort, and persistence but the children still marveled at each of the delicate snowball patterns they had created. This project will definitely add a great deal of ambiance to the opening of our business January 25th. The class has been studying penguins so it was suggested that our selling product be "slushys"; it reminded the class of something cold, like the Antarctica. Everyone agreed that the best place to learn about "slushys" would be at Dairy Queen. Since our visit was to be a short thirty minutes, the children generated excellent questions that could be asked to the manager upon our arrival. We invited Rosemary's mom, our guest parent, to conduct and record the interview after meeting Vivian, the manager on this time shift. The children learned a great deal from the interview; however, a huge question remains. Can we really make the "slushy" product at school? We will keep you posted! The children wrote an entry about their field trip visit in their scrapbooks which you may view at LS Show and Share Night on Thursday, January 28th at 5:30. Another new experience this week occurred that gives us another a connection with snow, penguins, and slushys; and it is ICE! On Thursday, children arrived at school a little earlier and brought their own gear to participate in ice skating lessons. They were eager to begin the lesson and now parents, and instructors know why. This class, just like penguins, feel pretty comfortable in the COLD environment of the ice rink. Their instructor, Mrs. Keily and Mrs. Herbst were quite impressed and indicated that a few new skills may be needed for this group of skaters! And by the way, parents and families are invited to come to SK Family Skate Friday, January 29th at 1:30. So brush off your skates and join us! The children are also excited that they have just one more letter formation to learn and will then be ready to review the formation of letters on lined paper. Hip, Hip, Hooray! There is also excitement about reading new books. If a book, other than the decodable seris book is brought home to share with you, PLEASE remember to have it returned to school the next day. The class experience our first Special Person, thanks to Bonde and his family. After reading the Friday Folder note, please post your "special person" day on your calendar. I almost forgot, the class practiced counting using calculators this week. The children thought that was so "Cool!" Enjoy a great weekend!

  1. Dear Mrs. Camp and the Super duper alacazooper SK class,
I love your snowflakes! How ever did you make those beautiful snowflakes? Some are so tiny. How did you cut those little itty bitty holes? You must be great cutters! I love how they are hanging in little columns on the bulletin board.

I really laughed when I heard the riddle this week? Which coat does not keep you warm? That is a good one. Ha Ha Ha Hee Hee Hee. I am glad you all had real coats to keep you warm at Dairy Queen- that was a "cool" field trip. Lucky little penguins you are that you got to have a slushie. I loved those when I was your age.

I wish I was in SK. Do you have space for me? Please please? Pretty please with sugar on top? What fun you have and what interesting things you learn. You are all such lucky ducks!

    Hugs! Mrs. Jochmann
