I would like to take this special opportunity to introduce you the the cast of characters that took part in our Halloween celebrations Friday. They included: Carmen Moranda, Ninja, Pirate, Ballerina, Princess Leia, Major Kingwill, Power Ranger, Bride, Sharp'e, Elizabeth Swan, Spider Man, Anakin Skywalker, and not pictured, Pocahontas. You may view their exciting Ha

lloween morning by clicking onto the picture album which accompanies our blog. Other highlights of our week included haunted house mats with ghosts, and jack-o-lanterns that were used to engage the children in various math activities. Each child also created a Halloween pattern banner that may be viewed on a bulletin board in our classroom. An adaptation of
Pumpkin, Pumpkin by Jeanne Titherington was an ongoing activity throughout the week. The children read it each day, illustrated parts of it each day, and personalized it by adding their own pumpkin experiments. Make certain that your child recites the poems and sings the songs that are incorporated in the book. Please place this treasure in your child's "book box" and revisit it often with friends and family. Seven year old "trick or treat" candy was given to small groups with the direction to sort the delightful morsels using four different attributes. Each group collaborated and determined their best attribute and shared it with the rest of the class. The children made well thought out decisions.
The children enjoyed literacy/math centers this week and free activity time too. Many thanks for your help in making our SK Halloween festivities so meaningful and special. Please send sleeping bags back in draw-string or zippered bags. Have a great long weekend! See you Tuesday!
