The class came to school ready to begin dinosaur dig. By reading
Aliki's book
Digging Up Dinosaurs the children realized that this adventure would be a lot of work and that it takes a team of well trained scientists to do the job. When the children opened the door and found their sleeping bags out they were puzzled until someone said, "Look inside." Sure enough the class had found the excavation site and the fun began. Each child became a
paleontologist by studying the dinosaur bone. Each became a
geologist by determining how old the bones might have been. Each became a
draftsman by tracing and measuring the bones. Each became a
worker by digging up

their find. Some had cameras so they became
photographers by capturing the dig on film. And all of the children became
specialists by preparing the fossils for the museum and solving the puzzle of how to put it together. The children enjoyed a snack and kept on working throughout most of the morning. After lunch the class took a bre

ak from the "dig" by going to the famous USM sledding hill and giving saucer sledding a try. You are right, the children had a great time smiling, giggling, and laughing, as they went up and down the hill. We ended the day by enjoying a nice of milk an
d oatmeal cookies that Lauren brought for the class. Tuesday, the children were introduced to their own copy of
Dinosaurs. We are planning to research an i

nteresting fact about each of the dinoaurs before our study is complete. The book reminded us that we had not yet written abou
t our visit to the Dinosaur Exhibit and class at the Milwaukee Public Museum. The children were asked to record their thoughts using lined paper for the first time. The entries are posted on our bulletin board so come take a look. And yes, they are terrific! In anticipation of your visit the class created a delightful dinosaur diorama with a moveable merry-go-round, a variety of colorful puzzles and of course our class dinosaur. The children haven't created designs with patterns blocks for months and they thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to revisit the activity by creating incredible designs. We'll make certain to take pictures and put them on next week's blog. The children used their artistic flair by creating outstanding birthday cards for Sophie's birthday celebration. It was a pleasure spending time with you and sharing your child's terrific progress in SK! We'll continue to explore new learning adventures in the upcoming months! Have a great weekend!
