An Amazing Week!

Thanks again for the terrific conference last week! The children were eager to begin the week so they were presented with the challenge of making three dimensional designs with straws and ties. Was I amazed! One child started and everyone got the idea and ran with it. If someone needed help a friend was right there to give a helping hand! At the beginning of the week, the class made amazing birthday cards to celebrate Abigail's upcoming birthday and ended the week by making amazing ones for Skip's upcoming birthday as well. The class was introduced to The Dice Game which encourages the children to add-on to a number to find the sum and review the formation of numbers. The children are learning a variety of dinosaur songs and they are illustrating the poem Five Enormous Dinosaurs. The class began creating their own excavation sites to share with you at home. The experience will give you an idea of what a "dinosaur dig" is all about. Please place the site on a lipped tray or you will have the "sands of time" in your home for many days to come! Children who did not do the activity will do so later next week, time just ran out! Mackenzie's mom, our artist in residence, assisted the children as they created their clay dinosaurs Hip, Hip, Hooray for sharing your talents. The next step will be to have them glazed. The children listened to a poem and then wrote about what they would do if they had a dinosaur as a pet. As earlier stated the children are now writing on lined paper for the remainder of the year. Again, I was amazed at what they wrote and how well they wrote it. A guest kindergarten teacher from out of state joined us for two days and was impressed to see how USM SK children express themselves as writers. The way the children explore capitalization and punctuation, space between words, and spell were of special interest to her as well as the formation of letters and penmanship. We also took advantage of the amazing snowfall to visit our SK tree. Please enjoy reading The Big, Big, Van with you child. It is filled with word family words you may wish to explore during the week. The blog picture album will give you insight into our visit. At our Assembly this week, we enjoyed a fashion show presented by lower school students and adults who were dressed in their cultural heritage attire. This was an great introduction to our visit to our school Global Village. Many thanks to parent guides for this event Luke, Safronia, and Nadia. The class had a great time exploring and learning about countries from around the world. Our USM community is truly amazing. Enjoy a great weekend. We enjoyed an amazing school week!
