A Special month Begins

Monday began by a class discussion the reflecting on the great time the children had during had during Grandparents/Special Friends Day The thoroughly enjoyed the turkey riddles and felt you learned a lot about how we do Morning Message in our classroom. It was evident to me that the children loved sharing part of their day with you at school! The next day the children were eager to write about their weekend. Although Thanksgiving came up, loosing a tooth, making an ice rink in the backyard, or getting a Christmas tree were some of the pertinent topics written about on that morning. Abigail shared her thoughts on the first night of Hanukkah and then brought in a menorah for our class to enjoy for the next seven days. A big thanks to her family, especially, her grandmother, who made holiday cookies for the class. Later in the children had great fun learning how to the "dreidel" game." We will play it often for the next few weeks and then send it home for you to enjoy during winter break. The last day of November each child made a chain which will help count down the days until the New Year, 2011 begins. Please help your child read the poem daily and tear off a chain until you reach the bell. The picture album is slim this week but the pictures of the straw and tie shape activity speaks volumes for how the children enjoyed exploring shapes. Next, they want to make letters and numbers. If you go to a grocery store that uses wired plastic ties and can send some to school that would be terrific! It about time to learn our sight words so the children practiced saying and spelling them to one another this week. They especially enjoyed writing them on colored constriction paper using colored chalk. I am posting the SK sight words on the portal for your convenience. At this point the children need only recognize them; however knowing how to spell them would enhance their writing abilities, so my goal is encourage them to learn to spell and use the words sooner rather than later. Reading the sixty-fourth day entry of Emily's First One Hundred Days of School provided us an opportunity to visit Ms. Ziegelbauer, our lower school science teacher. Ask you child about our visit. The children also made large hats and mitten to kick of our SK service project, the SK Mitten Tree and then they introduced the activity to the whole lower school at an assemble by singing The Mitten Tree Song, You'll find a note in the Friday Folder that further explains the project. Your child is bringing home a page from the book, La ferme folle. Ask your child to explain how the book was created in French class with Madame Dupee. Please place the winter invitation you received to attend the upcoming Holiday Sing in a view for all of you family to enjoy. This is another extremely important events that occur this year. Please event special relatives to attend as well! Parents, the weather is definite changing and we take students out daily unless the wind chill is too low. Also please sent in warmer winter clothes to be kept here at school. An extra pair of sock would be a good ideas as well. It's great being back in class. Hope you had a great weekend.
