Preparations for the Holidays

As the SK children gathered by the Mitten tree last week, they learned that Mrs. Pilarzyk, our technology coordinator, is also a talented knitter. She read The Mitten Tree and then demonstrated various knitting techniques. She also donated several of her beautifully knitted hats, mittens, and scarves to our SK service project. All of the SK classes also met this week to rehearse for our upcoming Holiday Sing, Thursday, at 9:30 in the Henes Theatre. Please come and then join us in the classroom for a festive party. I was so proud of the children as they shared their traditions with one another throughout the week. Speaking before a group, even your classmates, is a big deal and yet each child had great presence and a great time as well. The children have also been busy with their hands. They made snowflakes out of pipe cleaners and shiny beads. They thought it funny that it snowed the very next day. The children painted evergreen trees to remind us of Nature, and clay mittens to celebrate our service project. However, the children are most excited about the gift that they have made for you. A huge thank you to the moms of Mackenzie and Jackson who made the gifts with the children. Another thank you goes to the moms who, took the children down to the Holiday Shop. Throughout the week the children have play the dreidel, domino, and tic, tac, toe games. These games give children an opportunity to have fun while thinking, listening and developing strategy skills. At the end of last week, the children made delightful Birthday cards for Emery. The children also explored making number equations with numbers zero - five and printing a variety of alphabet letters. Please encourage your child to rest, relax, and go to bed early. Have you child get plenty of sleep with the holiday upon us. Please remember to send or bring a set of play clothes for Thursday, and larger and warmer clothes to replenish those in your child's locker. PJS are to be worn Friday. No outdoor recess. Please help your child learn the rhyme that was in the Friday Folder. See you Thursday if not before!
