Monday morning the children wrote a journal entry about their weekend and it sounds as though everyone had a great time. As a teacher, I truly appreciate the time and effort it takes for children to organize their thoughts and put them on paper. It is wonderful to see the class explore the writing process with such enthusiasm. Everyone added the final piece to
their Very Hungry Caterpillar storyboard by cutting out a beautiful butterfly and decorating it using the element of symmetry. Throughout the week the children practiced the story at rest time in preparation for our visit to JK. The children made colorful patterned necklaces. The challenge was creating a pattern while counting thirty beads. It was interesting watching the children complete the activity. The class practiced printing slanted letters and will begin circled letters next week, as we continue to use the proper strokes and formation of upper and lower case letters. Chalk was used as the children practiced
printing their first name using a capital letter followed by lower case letters. We play the game Fill in the Blanks. The children we asked to name the letters that were missing in several alphabetical sequences. We will review this activity often using both letters and numbers. The class was asked to estimate their heights by creating patterns out of unifex cubes. They measured their patterns with a friend and the results were quite comparable to their actually height. Thanks for sending fall leaves to school this week. The children enjoyed creating their leaf banners and they certainly enjoyed the having special visitors in our classroom. This gift will certainly be a very special memory of fall in SK! We sang Good-Bye Mexico to our last male and female butterfly Friday morning. The children are developing a true love for nature and the critters that surround them. Hip, Hip, Hooray! Please enjoy planting the milkweed seeds that were sent home this weekend so that next spring or summer you can have monarch caterpillar in your backyard.
See you Tuesday!Saturday, October 9, 2010
School is Fun!
Friday Folders were not sent home. Please remember that there will be no school on Monday. Children should bring a pillowcase to carry their pumpkin and a section of newspaper to sit on while in the pumpkin field on Tuesday's field trip to Barthels Fruit Farm. The original field trip note is posted on the portal.
