Fun for All!

All week caterpillars visited our classroom to assist the children when spelling and putting their name puzzles together and by Thursday, the children were comfortable spelling the names of other caterpillars too. After reading and sequencing Eric Carle's story,The Very Hungry Caterpillar, the children created their own leaf, caterpillar, and chrysalis. Next the class traced, cut, and glued fruit to their storyboards. There is one more addition needed to complete the life cycle and then the children will practice their stories and read them to JKers later next week! The song, The Ants Go Marching, inspired the children to sing while completing a measuring lesson. In handwriting, the children finished all of the "pull down" letters an will now learn the stokes and formation of slanted letters. The process of learning the directionality and formation of letters has truly made an impact on how the children look at the printing. Hip, Hip, Hooray! Math and literacy centers were visited by the class several times this week. The decodable book, I Am, which is the third "a" word family I was trying to remember at BTSN is NOT very exciting. So perhaps you may suggest that your child write several words that represent the colors found in the book. An example could be, apple, for red. Please encourage your child to write all the sounds he/she hears in a word rather than spelling the word for your child. That sounds like a good plan to me! It was nice seeing you at the Fun Run. Our class met Willy the Wildcat in several venues throughout the day. The third grade buddies were wonderful with our class and everyone who participated in the run was a winner. Thanks for the 100% participation in BTSN. It was awesome learning new tid-bits about your children. The class beamed as I read the notes that you left them Thursday evening. They laughed and giggled when I informed them that you learned the Headline, Midline Baseline dance. Please continue learn more about the USM community by visiting the portal and reading the blog. The children enjoy hearing from you so blog back to us now and again. . The forecast called for colder weather, Fitter, a female butterfly from our class and a male butterfly from Mrs. Jeffer's class were released in the Butterfly Garden after school. They are now off the Mexico. Wildcat Day is Wednesday. Go on a Nature walk and collects leaves. PRESS them in newspaper, and bring them to school on Thursday. Please Join us from 8:15-9:15 to leaf paint. Enjoy fall!
