Nice to meet you on our class blog. This is the first of many blogs you will receive throughout the year. You are invited to send comments and they will be shared with the class. A big welcome to SK Room P217, and especially to our new classmates Hunter, Bella, and Fiona. This is the beginning of a wonderful partnership between your child and family, a dedicated teacher who is passionate about her profession as a teacher of young children, and our USM community. The children are having a great time getting acquainted with one another and exploring their new classroom. Gathering with the entire school for the Opening Ceremony was a first for the class. They enjoyed the moment but were eager go back the tower room, as it is now called, and play As the children returned to the building and saw our three tall windows you could hear them say that the big tower really does sit on top of our classroom! Reading to children is a significant part of an education. Later in the morning we read Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten, and discussed the things that a teacher does to get a classroom ready for children. Thursday, we read Tally O'Mall
ey, a terrific book that takes you on a vacation with the O'Malley family as they tally things while on a summer vacation. To make a further connection, the children paired off and counted and tallied items that we use daily in the class. The boys and girls did a terrific job activity by listening carefully, following directions well, and teaming with a partner to complete the activity. By the way, lunch has been going very well. Each child is assigned to one of eight tables with seven children and an adult. They seem to be eating well and enjoying their dining experience. Meeting old and new friends at recess is a big hit and an important part of each day. The most exciting adventure in school thus far occurred today. As an aside, Wisconsin monarchs lay their l
ast eggs early to mid-August so we rely on receiving eggs from Monarch Watch. Friday, we ventured to th
e SK Butterfly Garden and learned about their host plant, milkweed. Later, the children look observed the tiny critters before placing them in a cage. Now the fun begins! Please feel free to drop by before or after school to see how our butterfly study is developing. We have a nut allergy. Please be sensitive to this matter as you select snacks to send to school on special occasions. Our friend can only eat snacks that are not processed in a plant that produces products containing nuts. Please check the labels carefully! When in doubt, please send in the label and I will double-check it! We are off to a great start!
Have a nice weekend!

I am so sad that I am missing the first full week of school for the little ones. What a great way to keep up with the kiddos! Particularly from Brazil!
