Practice, Review, and New

We began our week by reviewing the meaning of double digit numbers. What does the number 82 mean? The number 82 means eight groups of ten and 2 ones. Looking at the picture album, you can see that the children understand the skill of place value and proved it by using craft sticks to show their work. After briefing discussing their favorite art pieces from our visit to the Milwaukee Art Museum, the children drew pictures and wrote several reasons why they chose thier pieces. They reasons were impressive. This work is on view on the bulletin board outside of our classroom. Please come by to enjoy it when you have an opportunity. The child revisisted Ms. Lee, our resident artist, and Mr. Geniusz to put final touches on one of the two huge checker boards that is now in the Lincoln Center. They also saw where their glazed tiles will be set into the Tower Bench. We are all eager to see the bench when it has been completed. The children will be sharing other art pieces at our SK Mother's Art Show on Wednesday, May 5th from 6:00-7:00 pm. So moms, please mark your calendars for this special upcoming event. The class is reviewing their sight words in a unique way. Each child made a Tic, Tac, Toe board that will be used to review all of the SK sight words. The children thought the idea was a clever one!
New literacy and math center have been created and the class will be visiting them for the next several weeks. Your child really wants to trick you when you read Decodable Book 11, We Can Fix It, so please read it carefully. We printed letters Ii, Jj. and Kk using word families words at the end of each lesson. We are telling time by the hour and hope to add the half-hour this week. The children are using beans to make addition math probels with the number 4-10. The children are having fun exploring the process. Please continue to play the games with the tiles and the rubber-band to review word families. The class continues to enjoy reading books in groups or with friends. Hip, Hip, Hooray. We thank Lilian and Aerene for inviting their families to share their Special Person Day! The class books that were written by the class are always so meaningful and caring. This class continues to make learning an adventure and I love it! In preparation for Earth Day is week ask your child teach your family this song!

There is a planet that we love, And Earth is her name Oh
E-A-R-T-H, E-A-R-T-H, E-A-R-T-H, E-A-R-T-H
And Earth is her name ,Oh!
See you soon!

  1. Dear Mrs. Camp and the SK Artistes Magnifiques,
I love the beautiful artwork each of you have hanging in the hall. It was so interesting to see which paintings each of you picked as your favorite. What treasures they are.
I like hearing about all the math you are doing too. Aren't numbers cool!! There are so many fun ways to play with numbers and I think the SK mathematicians are the best-ola! XO Mrs. Jochmann
