Hip, Hip, Hooray for our 100th Day in SK!

The children had great fun meeting with Mr. Geniusz, our L/S art teacher, in the clay room to create a special Valentine's Day surprise for you; it was a terrific way to begin our day. The class wrote interesting entries about Antarctic Slush in their scrapbooks. The class also researched groundhogs in preparation for February 2nd. Each child made a furry creature, learned a poem about it, and then predicted whether it would see its shadow or not. We heard the news that our Milwaukee Zoo groundhog, Wynter, did not see her shadow which means spring should arrive early this year. Guess we will just have to wait to see what really happens during these next six weeks. Please make certain your resident groundhog has a cozy place to reside in your family dwelling and that your child recites the groundhog poem to you. During French class the children spoke with one another in small groups and then wrote names of vegetables and fruits in French, it sounded and looked great to me! After learning the formation of numbers 0-10 , the class was given the challenge of writing 0-100. They completed the challenge quit well. They also practiced the recognition of coins and their values by tallying them this week. The class met with the artist in residence, Ms. Marina, and Mr. Geniusz and created individual tiles that will make up the tower portion of the bench that is being created by SK, 3rd grade, and middle school students. Last year SK and 3rd grade collaborated on various insect sculptures that are scattered throughout our building. The 100th Day of school finally arrived Friday, the 5th. We read the last entry of The First One Hundred Days of School, counted the number grid to 100, changed the straw cups to 100, and sang The 100 Day song. The children made colorful necklaces of one hundred beads and then grouped their collections from home by 10s and fives. Lilian thank you for telling us about your 100th Day necklace and making 100 hearts in the snow while on your vacation. U R Terrific! After lunch the everyone went on a scavenger hunt to find numbers 1-100. Fifteen numbers are still missing. The children finished our classroom day by eating lemon flavored cookies with 100 written on them. They then dressed for ice skating where we joined friends and families for a little time on the ice. Our skating lesson earlier in the week went very well. What a wonderful way for a teacher to spend her week! Have a great weekend. See you soon!
