Insects and butterflies have definitely become a focus as was predicted late last week! The children continue to be excellent observers and frequently comment on the changes that occur in the butterfly cage. Excitment was in the air as the children discovered that one of the chrysalis was very dark and that infact, the butterfly would emerge soon!
Several minutes after the class went to French, I learned that their prediction was 100% correct. I quickly took the cage upstairs and thanks to the enthusiasm of Ms. Dupee, the children saw the complete process and learned the French word for "butterfly" as well. Tomorrow we will name our butterfly and send if off to Mexico with a roaring redition of "Good-bye Butterfly." Two other songs you may request to be sung to you are The Insect Jig and Head, Thorax, Abdomen; both help answer the question, What is an insect?
I am certain you have heard that each child had an opportunity to print their name with shavi
ng cream while looking at his/her Zaner - Blozer name model. It was such fun and the children loved every moment. Please take note of the process and enjoy this activity with your child during weekend!
The class will soon introduce themselves to you as a Circle of Friends. In preparation for this event, the children made several graphs by using various traits to sort their faces.Your challenge will be to discover the traits that were chosen by the children.

The class has made bug catchers and antennae in preparation for our insect hunt Friday. I'm keeping my finger crossed that insects will abound. Please encourage your child to return the "critter" to Nature within a twenty-four hour period.
Enjoy your weekend! I look forward to sharing SK adventures with you Thhursday evening!

Wow, What a moment! I wish I was there to witness the birth of the butterfly. Those faces just adorable. I can't wait to see what bugs you will bring home.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Does anyone know how to print this blog?
Lovely kids! Hey, I am a little confused. Ella thinks we need to catch a critter this weekend...is that true?

What a wonderful bunch of kids! Since this is my first chance to comment, I want to thank you, Mrs. Camp (and kids), for this blog. Savanna just caught a very interesting moth and then released it into our house. It's our "pet moth." Ohh. . . now he's safe in his critter house again.

ReplyDeleteThis blog is such a treat - Mrs. Camp thank you for sharing kids' unforgettable experiences!
ReplyDeleteWhat a memory of butterfly birth - did it get dual citizenship being born during a French class :)? How did you name the butterfly?
Thank you for sharing a list of books and songs - I just had an awesome Saturday morning concert!
Now we are in a process of building a big container for Natey's captured creature (I am not sure what it is - some kind of moth?) - so it could exersize/fly around. Last night it had a piece of leaf for dinner.
Hello Mrs. Camp's SKers!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great week you have had. I loved all the interesting faces you made. What a great idea to find all sorts of neat ways to sort and tally them! Lilian did the insect jig for us last night and told us about the life cycle of a caterpillar- pretty cool stuff. I also heard all about your dance class and that dances are made of "actions and forms"! What amazing learners you are.
Oh and I really like the insect riddle! Lilian told me the answer!
Mrs. Camp, thank you for doing this. It is such a wonderful tool for us parents to be able to follow and ask great questions about what the kids have been doing all week.
Mrs. Camp's Great Class-
ReplyDeleteWOW - what a wonderful week! The butterfly experience sounds so great, but the "bug hunt" and the insect jig really make it spectacular! Keep up the great work - as always Mrs. Camp, you are wonderful! Thank you.
